Vision
That all students at UNSW will experience a challenging, relevant, satisfying, and engaging education in their undergraduate or postgraduate coursework or higher degree program, provided by committed, well-prepared, expert staff who are willing continually to review, reflect on, and improve those programs. The learning experience engaged in by students will be founded both on research and on established good practice.
Values
The following broad values underpin current programs and strategies, including the Guidelines, to assure quality in learning and teaching at UNSW.
Individual differences and cultural diversity are recognised, valued, and harnessed in both teaching and curriculum design.
Various intellectual, professional, social, and personal qualities, capabilities, and skills deemed desirable in UNSW graduates are embodied in a set of graduate attributes. The development of these graduate attributes in students is embedded in teaching and the curriculum.
Systematic and universally practiced evaluation of teaching and courses is used for continual improvement, recognition, and reporting.
Excellence in teaching is fully recognised and rewarded, including in the promotion of academics.
Assuring the quality of learning and teaching is an intrinsic part of the university's overall quality system.
Improvement in the learning experience of students is achievable through a professional approach to teaching. The conditions for a good learning experience can be created through the application of accepted principles of good practice.
Staff development in learning and teaching and the strategies employed to enable it are continuing and genuinely responsive to the needs of students and staff, and these strategies encourage reflective practice as part of professionalism in teaching.
